Airport Information

New Zealand has seven international airports - Auckland, Wellington, Hamilton and Palmerston North in the North Island, Christchurch, Dunedin and Queenstown in the South Island. Major centres and resorts are served by Air New Zealand (National), Air New Zealand Link (Air Nelson, Eagle Air), Freedom Air and Qantas Airways.

Auckland Airport
Most of the airlines flying into Auckland International Airport include; Aerolineas Argentinas, Aircalin, Air France, Air Nauru, Air New Zealand, Air Pacific, Air Vanuatu, Britannia Airlines, British Airways, Canadian Airlines, Cathay Pacific, China Airlines, EVA Air, Garuda Indonesia, Japan Airlines, Korean Airlines, Lan Chile, Lufthansa, Malaysian Airlines, Mandarin Airlines, Polynesian Airlines, Qantas Airways, Royal Tongan Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Solomon Airlines, Thai Airways and United Airlines.

The airport has three terminals, the international terminal and two domestic terminals - one for Air New Zealand the other for Qantas Airways. A free shuttle service operates between all three terminals or for those who prefer the exercise, there is a connecting walkway.

The airport is 14 miles/23km from Auckland City, the taxi fare is around NZ$40. There is a bus connection every 30 minutes, single fare, NZ$13 adult, NZ$6 children, return NZ$22 adult, NZ$12 for children. Facilities for luggage storage can be found at all three terminals. Enquiries regarding mishandled luggage can be made at airline counters in the Customs Hall.

Christchurch Airport
Christchurch International airport is served by Air New Zealand, Air Pacific, Ansett Australia, British Airways, Japan Airlines, Korean Airlines, Luftansa, Qantas and Singapore Airlines. It is 7 miles/12km to the city centre. The taxi fare is approximately $20, shuttle bus $10, public bus $2.70. There is a luggage storage facility in the domestic terminal. Enquiries regarding mishandled luggage should be directed to the relevant airline.

Wellington Airport
The airlines that fly regularly from Wellington Airport include; Air New Zealand, Air NZ Link, Origin Pacific, Polynesian Airlines, Qantas, and Sounds Air. The airport is situated 5 miles/8km from the city centre. To get to the city a taxi will cost around $16, public bus $4 adult, $2 children, shuttle costs $8 for the first passenger and $2 for additional passengers going to the same area.

Dunedin Airport
Dunedin International Airport is served by Freedom Air International with direct flights to and from Sydney and Brisbane. The airport is 28km from Dunedin city. Taxis and shuttles are available.

Queenstown Airport
Air New Zealand Link and Air New Zealand National regularly fly into Queenstown Airport. There is a direct connection from Sydney via Air New Zealand International year round. During the winter months Air NZ International operate additional flights from Brisbane and Sydney. Qantas also offer direct flights from Sydney during winter. The airport is just a few minutes from the town centre. Taxis, shuttles and courtesy coaches are available.

Airport Departure Tax
A departure tax of $25 is payable by passengers leaving New Zealand. Children under 12 and transit passengers staying less than 24 hours are exempt.
